Virat Kohli wcześniej kierował RCB przez 9 lat, zanim zrezygnował ze stanowiska kapitana w 2021 roku
One of the biggest news stories that came up during the IPL 2025 Retention was that Virat Kohli became the new captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The news became more evident after former captain Faf du Plessis wasn’t retained by RCB in the Retention List. But now RCB Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat has claimed that the team hasn’t taken any decision on captaincy yet.
With no Faf du Plessis, reports in the media broke out that Virat Kohli once again will become the new captain. It was further strengthened when Virat Kohli was retained for a whooping price of 21 crore by the Bengaluru outfits.

Will Virat Kohli become the New RCB Captain?
“I am sorry to disappoint everybody listening. We have not made any decision related to captaincy or on that (Kohli returning as skipper) as yet. We are open to options. The only obvious decision we made was not to retain Faf. He did a great job last year and the year before that. So from our perspective, we will keep a very open mind when we head to the auction,” Mo Bobat told JioCinema.
Bobat went on to explain that no decision on captaincy has been made by the team. In fact, the team is keeping all their options open. It remains to be seen if Virat Kohli in fact returns to the new season as the captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Previously, Virat Kohli had been the captain of the franchise for 9 years before giving up on captaincy in 2021. But now with the Proteas great no longer in the team, there is a dearth of captaincy candidates.
Furthermore, Bobat explained that as the team heads into the auction, they want to keep an open mind and assess all situations before selecting their captain for the upcoming seasons.
