Shakib al Hasan wyraził wcześniej nadzieję na wzięcie udziału w rozgrywkach ODI BAN vs AFG i nałożył na BCB obowiązek podjęcia decyzji w sprawie jego udziału
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chairman Faruque Ahmed claimed that Shakib al Hasan is unlikely to play the BAN vs AFG ODIs. His statement comes just a day after he had said that the all-rounder was available and that the team for the series wasn’t decided yet. The BCB official dropped a hint of Shakib’s return which could potentially be the series against West Indies ahead of Champions Trophy 2025.
Shakib al Hasan to miss BAN vs AFG ODIs
Shakib al Hasan had earlier expressed hopes of taking part in BAN vs AFG ODIs and had put the onus on the BCB to decide on his participation. He missed the BAN vs SA Test series after failing to return to Bangladesh following the political upheaval and violence. The BCB president said that it was time for Shakib to regroup, adding that the veteran could still continue in ODIs for Bangladesh and that the series against WI might be when he gets to return.
“After Shakib couldn’t come to play his (farewell) Test, he wasn’t doing much practice. I think he needs some time to regroup. We haven’t taken a final decision but he looks unlikely to play the next series (against Afghanistan). He is likely to miss the series. He could be playing a T10 tournament soon. I feel he can still play for Bangladesh in the 50-over format,” BCB president Faruque Ahmed said in a press conference.

Despite announcing his plan to retire from Tests after a farewell game at home, Shakib al Hasan had decided to hold his ODI retirement until Champions Trophy in 2025. Earlier, Shakib was asked about his participation in the series against Afghanistan, to which he had redirected the question to the BCB. The star has not returned to Bangladesh ever since the political upheaval and the violence that saw former PM Sheikh Hasina flee the country and an interim government being formed in the country.
“How I can tell (whether I will be playing the ODIs against Afghanistan or not) BCB should tell about it,” Shakib al Hasan had told Cricbuzz.
The cricketer-cum-politician, who was a part of the Awami League government, has a murder case lodged against him where he has been named alongside former PM Sheikh Hasina. It remains to be seen if Shakib will be a part of the ODIs.
