2025 is slated to have several major blockbuster releases in the form of franchise sequels, reboots, and live-action adaptations. While 2024 featured considerably fewer major blockbuster releases compared to 2023’s stacked lineup, 2025 is expected to have even more highly anticipated releases. At the time of writing, the biggest blockbuster releases of 2024 have been Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, the only two films to eclipse more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
Rounding out the top 5 box office performers of 2024 thus far are Despicable Me 4, Dune: Part Two, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. A few more highly-anticipated releases will come out before end-of-year, the first of which is Ridley Scott’s long-awaited Gladiator sequel starring Paul Mescal and Universal’s film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked, both of which release on November 22. Finishing the year at potential top box office contenders are Moana 2 (November 27) and Mufasa: The Lion King (December 20).
