However, Samson is known for performing in IPL while going on to flop on the international stage. RR have made a brave but bovious choice of retaining Samson. Will that pay off?

Sanju Samson a double-edged sword for RR in IPL 2025

Sanju Samson’s record in the IPL is not be taken lightly as the Kerala batter has managed to amass over 300 runs in each season since 2017. With 4419 runs from 167 games, Samson is easily one of the IPL veterans. However, his success rate in international cricket has been quite inconsistent in comparison with IPL.

Sanju Samson has had a mixed-run in the international setup over the last few months. He featured in the IND vs ZIM series and managed to scores of 58 runs and 12 runs. This was right after he was benced throughout the T20 World Cup despite scoring 531 runs in IPL 2024. He then went on to score two back-to-back hundreds against Bangladesh and South Africa. However, he has now faced two consecutive ducks in the T20I format, having failed in IND vs SA 2nd and 3rd T20I. Given his inconsistency, RR would want to have a more dependable opener for IPL 2025 along with Samson. And, they have a plethora of options to choose from.
