Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh feels that BCCI shouldn’t send Team India to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Although several countries, including Australia and South Africa, have travelled to Pakistan since cricket returned to the nation, and currently England are playing a 3-match Test series against them, India haven’t travelled there in the last 16 years.
Players shouldn’t travel: Harbhajan
Harbhajan feels Indian players won’t be safe in Pakistan; their safety will be in danger in Lahore, the venue where they are supposed to play all the matches. This certainly rings true, as just this week ago there was a bomb blast in Karachi, a day before the Pakistan vs England 1st Test kicked off in Multan.
“There are significant safety concerns in Pakistan. I’ve always said, and I still believe, that if there’s no guarantee of safety, our players shouldn’t travel to Pakistan,” said Harbhajan during a Legends League Cricket (LLC) event.
BCCI yet to take a call
BCCI vice-president had talked with the press earlier this month, talking about how the board will follow government’s instructions and then decided whether they’ll travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy.
“No decision has been taken on it. Our policy is that for international tours, we always seek permission from the government. It’s up to the government to decide whether or not our team should go to any country. Whatever the government will decide, we will abide by that,” Shukla told during the 2nd Bangladesh Test in Kanpur.
